Winter Storm Warning to take effect tonight for all of Southern Indiana

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that will take effect tonight at 7pm EST.

Snow showers will begin as early as this afternoon ahead of the main event that will arrive later tonight around 12am EST. and continue up through Monday morning. There will be a small break around 10am EST. before another band of snow arrives by lunchtime and will likely continue into the evening and ending late Monday night.

At this point significant accumulation looks likely. I'm not ready to release an actual snow map yet as I want to analyze the model data a little closer later today specifically on the short range models as that should give a more clear picture as to how much snow to expect. For now I'm going to at least show what I'm thinking in the graphic below. The first range is the lower end probability. The middle is what I believe is likely. The bottom is the higher end.

Later today I will post another update here on the blog with a more in depth look at snow totals and timing.

Lastly, there is a Wind Chill Advisory in effect for Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Pike, Posey, and Vanderburgh counties until 12pm CST. for wind chills 15 below zero. Take proper precautions unplugging outdoor water hoses and allowing them to drip to prevent frozen pipes. Allow proper heat circulation to indoor plumbing to prevent frozen pipes. Remember your PETS!! If it's too cold for you outdoors it's too cold for them!

Stay safe everyone!
