The latest on Tropical Storm Elsa and discussing severe weather potential for the weekend

Currently Tropical Storm Elsa is working its way up the East Coast and is forecasted to continue moving Northeast at 31mph. Its current maximum sustained wind is 50mph. As of the latest update from the National Hurricane Center this morning it's forecasted to remain a tropical storm as it exits the U.S late tonight into Early tomorrow morning.

Back here in Southern Indiana

Today

There will be a small chance for a few showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the overnight. There's also a chance for some storms to be strong or severe. The overall threat is low.

Currently the Storm Prediction Center has Southwestern portions of Southern Indiana under the Marginal risk for severe storms. Main threats would be gusty winds and hail.

The Weekend

This will be the two days out of the next seven with the best chances for rain and storms. As it stands now the setup will be off and on chances for showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday. Some heavy rain is a possibility as well as severe weather.

Like Friday there's a Marginal risk covering Southwestern portions of Southern Indiana. Main risks are damaging winds and hail. While its not my main concern there is small signal for a tornado threat. While this is the case the threat is low but not zero and keep in mind an isolated spin up tornado is possible in any thunderstorm.

There's also a risk for severe weather on Sunday.

Currently the Storm Prediction Center has all of Southern Indiana under a Marginal risk for severe weather. Main risks again would be damaging winds and hail.

Overall, between all three opportunities for severe weather they all look to be low-end and not real concerning at this time, but of course something to keep an eye on.

Looking ahead to next week

The pattern of wet weather will continue as there will be the chance for rain just about everyday leading all the way up to Friday. Showers will be mainly scattered which means this doesn't look like an all day everyday rain but if you do have any outdoor plans be prepared to dodge some rain drops at times. The daily chance Monday thru Friday next week ranges from 30 to 40 percent.

Temperatures on the other hand, will be in the low to mid 80s over the weekend, before returning to the upper 80s to low 90s heading into next week.

Have a great Weekend!!
